International Expansion for In-House Counsel – Key Insights and Tips for Avoiding Common Legal and Business Issues When Expanding Internationally

Event Description

Despite headwinds like Brexit, General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), and recent trade wars, it’s clear that global commerce is the future. This means that the regulations governing international business will increase in number, scope, and complexity.

And most importantly, as in-house counsel, your company will expect you to be well-equipped to guide them through these issues.

These expansions could take the form of outsourcing the company’s call center to India or opening a store in Dubai. In-House Counsel are frequently called upon to execute these plans, including drafting the right documents, leading the negotiations, and managing compliance with local rules, including with respect to corporate formalities, employment, and data governance. Law Departments must find ways to efficiently and effectively manage their legal teams and resources when navigating the unfamiliar terrain of expanding internationally.

Given the complex and wide-ranging nature of international expansion, In-House Connect is thrilled to feature Steve Wilson and Rachael Oakley of Osborne Clarke. Steve and Rachael have years of experience helping clients expand internationally, including with respect to cross-border acquisitions, European investments, and multi-jurisdictional projects. Their expertise covers employment law, product launches, global compliance, corporate governance and international dispute resolution.

Join us as Steve and Rachael will provide an overview of the international expansion process and discuss key areas for in-house counsel to prioritize and how best to avoid mistakes, including:

–           Entity formation,

–           How to build and manage your international resources,

–           Complying with local employment law regulations, and

–           Managing international Intellectual Property, Contracts, and Privacy Issues
