Mark Kahn

After spending the better part of his career as a lawyer for tech companies large and small and a brief stint as an executive recruiter, Mark Kahn became a part owner of the Oakland Ballers, an independent league baseball team seeking to fill the baseball void left by the Oakland A’s. Mark is the team’s General Counsel but he also serves as the PA Announcer at the stadium (by far, his favorite role). In his spare time, Mark helps his wife run Kahnfections, a popular neighborhood bakery in San Francisco. He’s also an avid cyclist and recently completed the grueling Race Across America as part of an 8-person team.

Flexible, adaptable business partner with a broad range of legal skills and expertise in intellectual property. USPTO registered patent attorney with diverse experience and understanding of various technology areas. Laura Frederick

Laura spent the last 25+ years practicing law across the globe from San Francisco to Singapore. Learning the ropes at international firms such Morrison & Foerster turned into leading commercial deals at Fortune 500s like Tesla. In each role, she focused on learning the ins and outs herself and helping her clients and coworkers understand contract nuances. After working for others her whole career, in 2019 she went to work for herself.  She practiced in her boutique law firm for five years and stopped working on client deals in December 2023 to focus full-time on How to Contract.

While Laura was a successful in-house commercial contracts attorney, she spent her life focused on her work and her kids. That changed in August 2020, when Laura began sharing daily contract tips as part of a 30-day challenge of posting on LinkedIn. Her posts were an immediate success. She started adding to each post a self-made funny cartoon that quickly became her trademark.

Following the success on LinkedIn, Laura published two editions of her Amazon bestseller on contracts – “Practical Tips on How to Contract” – that has sold over 7,000 copies. The book has been embraced by several law schools and law school professors.

Event Description

Burnout is no longer an abstract concept for legal leaders – it’s a lived reality. As responsibilities compound and expectations escalate, many in-house counsel and legal leaders find themselves running on empty, questioning their capacity to lead effectively without sacrificing their well-being.

Join us on Wednesday, July 23rd from 12pm to 1pm ET for Program Two of the IHC x SpotDraft Mental Health CLE Summit, for a candid panel discussion moderated by Theresa DiCenzo, featuring Mark Kahn, Mark Marin, and Laura Frederick. Together, they will share their personal journeys through burnout, therapy, and coaching, revealing how they redefined leadership through sustainability, compassion, and letting go. This session will explore the systems and mindset shifts that enabled them to lead better – not by doing more, but by releasing what no longer served them.

Key takeaways:

  • Recognize early warning signs of burnout and how they manifest for legal leaders
  • Understand the emotional, physical, and professional impact of burnout
  • Discover practical strategies to build sustainable leadership models
  • Learn mindset shifts that prioritise well-being without sacrificing excellence
  • Explore how to model healthy boundaries and resilience for your team
  • Gain personal insights on letting go, asking for help, and redefining leadership success

Who should attend

This session is for in-house counsel, legal team leaders, and professionals seeking to build sustainable careers, redefine leadership on healthier terms, and support themselves and their teams through growing demands.

There is NO COST to attend this LIVE program!
