Laura Belmont

General Counsel at Civis Analytics

As an attorney, compliance professional, and mom, Laura spend most of my days listening, solving problems, distilling complex concepts into easily-digestible information, and answering “why” and “how” questions.

Started her career in the non-profit sector focusing on disability advocacy and civil rights, and then took what she thought would be a quick detour to private practice. Much to her surprise, She enjoyed working at a large law firm – the fast pace, the novel legal issues, the intellectual and academic rigor, and the incredibly talented colleagues and mentors. When it came time to return home to Philadelphia, She transitioned to an in-house role so that she could focus on what she liked most about lawyering – working closely with businesses, creatively navigating complex issues, and solving problems with a focus on collaboration, innovation, and practicality.

From Code to Clause: In-House Essentials for Negotiating AI Software Agreements

Event Description

As artificial intelligence becomes embedded across business operations, in-house legal teams are increasingly responsible for negotiating technology agreements that account for how AI actually functions. Unlike traditional software, AI systems introduce new complexities around data flows, training inputs, model behavior, intellectual property ownership, regulatory exposure, and ongoing monitoring. These realities demand a contracting approach that is both technically informed and strategically aligned with enterprise risk. For today’s corporate legal departments, understanding the mechanics of AI is now essential to drafting enforceable, business-ready contract terms.

Join us on Wednesday, March 25, 2026, for an in-person program featuring Laura Belmont, General Counsel at Civis Analytics, and Matt Kohel, Partner at Saul Ewing. Together, they will translate complex AI concepts into practical guidance for in-house counsel, walking through the four foundational pillars of effective AI software agreements. Through real-world examples and negotiation strategies, this session will equip legal teams to proactively manage AI-related risk and craft contract terms that reflect how AI products truly operate.
