Event Description

Bringing global talent into your organization can unlock growth—but it also introduces a web of recruitment rules, anti-discrimination obligations, and immigration compliance requirements that can create real risk if handled inconsistently across HR and legal. With immigration policy headlines changing constantly, in-house legal teams need a clear, practical framework for what actually matters day-to-day (and what’s just noise).

Join us on Tuesday, February 3, 2026 at 12:00 p.m. ET / 9:00 a.m. PT as Leonard J. D’Arrigo and Brendan J. Venter of the Harris Beach Murtha Immigration Practice Group, walk in-house counsel through the employment-based immigration lifecycle—from hiring and I-9s to common visa pathways—while grounding the conversation in concrete best practices you can operationalize with HR and business stakeholders.

Key takeaways:

  • Lawful vs. unlawful questions during recruitment and hiring
  • Citizenship and immigration status discrimination risks
  • Best practices for coordinating HR and legal teams—and when to involve immigration counsel
  • I-9 compliance basics: who completes the forms and when; acceptable documents; common employer errors (and how to avoid them)
  • Overview of common nonimmigrant and immigrant employment-based visa options
  • How to assess the real organizational impact of immigration headlines (e.g., travel bans, proposed H-1B fee changes, consular processing updates, and shifts in humanitarian programs)

Who Should Attend: This program is designed for in-house legal professionals who advise on hiring and workforce planning, oversee HR/legal compliance, support global mobility or business immigration needs, partner closely with People/HR leadership, or want a clearer playbook for spotting risk and keeping immigration processes consistent across teams and locations.

There is NO COST to attend this program!

This program is FREE, thanks to our gracious sponsor, Harris Beach! Contract management at the speed of business! If you can’t make it to the live program, the recording will be available for viewing via our paid CLE library, In-House Connect On-Demand!
